Projecta IDC50XIQ 50A DC-DC Battery Charger with Intelli-IQ Support

The Projecta IDC50XIQ is a high-output 50A DC-DC charger designed for modern dual battery systems in 4WDs, caravans, and off-grid setups. Built for Australian conditions, it offers rapid charging from both alternator and solar sources, intelligent multi-stage charging, and seamless integration with Projecta's Intelli-IQ smart power management system.

Key Features

  • 50A High-Speed Charging
Delivers up to 50 amps for rapid charging of large auxiliary battery banks—ideal for lithium and high-capacity deep cycle systems.

  • Dual Input with Solar Priority
Accepts simultaneous alternator and solar input, with solar prioritised to reduce alternator load and fuel consumption.

  • Multi-Chemistry Support
Compatible with Lithium (LiFePO₄), AGM, Gel, Wet Cell, and Calcium batteries. Charge profiles are selectable for optimal battery care and performance.

  • Built-In MPPT Solar Regulator
The integrated Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controller ensures efficient solar charging, extracting the maximum power even in low light.

  • Fully Sealed IP68/IP69K Enclosure
Designed for harsh environments—dustproof, waterproof, vibration-resistant, and pressure-washer safe for under-bonnet or chassis mounting.

  • Voltage Drop Compensation
Automatically increases output voltage to account for cable losses, ensuring correct charge voltage at the auxiliary battery over long distances.

  • Adaptive Charging
Compatible with vehicles using smart alternators and start/stop technology. Reduces strain on the starter battery by adjusting charge behaviour when engine is off.

  • Parallel Charging Capable
Two IDC50X units can be connected in parallel (Master/Slave configuration) to provide up to 100A combined output.

  • Comprehensive Protection
Built-in safeguards include over-temp, over/under voltage, short circuit, and reverse polarity protection.

Intelli-IQ System & Smart Relay Integration

The IDC50XIQ connects to Projecta’s Intelli-IQ ecosystem via LIN Bus, allowing full integration with compatible displays, apps, and smart relays for a centralised and intelligent 12V power system.

  • IQD2 Display Compatibility
Monitor charge input (solar/alternator), current, battery voltage, and stage (Bulk, Absorption, Float) in real time. Alerts such as low voltage or thermal shutdowns are clearly indicated.

  • Bluetooth & App Control
Configure settings, update firmware, and monitor performance via the Projecta IQ App on iOS and Android. Also accessible via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

  • Smart Relay Support
Works with Projecta Smart Relays for advanced accessory control:

    • IQR040 (Single Channel, 40A):
Supports voltage-sensitive switching, programmable timers, current sensing, and automatic disconnect features. Suitable for fridges, compressors, and other high-draw devices.

    • IQMR4 (4-Channel, 10A per channel, 30A max):
Provides dimming, flash patterns (e.g. SOS, strobe), linked switch logic, and programmable schedules. Ideal for lighting, beacons, and low-draw loads.

All devices communicate through the LIN Bus, offering centralised setup, monitoring, and logic-based control from the IQD2 display or mobile app.

Installation Notes

  • Cable Size
Use 6 B&S (13mm²) cabling for all major connections (alternator, solar, aux, ground) for runs up to 12m. For longer runs, increase cable size accordingly.

  • Fusing
Use 80a fuses on both the input and output cables, mounted as close as possible to the respective battery terminals.

  • Ignition Override
For vehicles with smart alternators, connect the ignition wire to a switched 12V source using 1–1.5mm² cable and a 1–2A fuse.

  • Solar Input
Connect solar panels directly to the IDC50XIQ. If using panels with a built-in regulator, the regulator must be bypassed.

  • Temperature Sensors
Includes a 5m sensor loom. Connect to TEMP1 and TEMP2 inputs for accurate battery temperature compensation.

What type of batteries can the IDC50XIQ charge?
The IDC50XIQ supports Lithium (LiFePO₄), AGM, Gel, Wet Cell, and Calcium batteries, with selectable charge profiles for each chemistry.
Does the IDC50XIQ require an external solar regulator?
No. The IDC50XIQ has a built-in MPPT solar regulator that handles the solar input directly.
Can the IDC50XIQ be used with smart alternators?
Yes. It includes an ignition override input to allow compatibility with variable-voltage smart alternators and idle-stop systems.
Is the IDC50XIQ waterproof?
Yes. The IDC50XIQ is sealed to IP68 and IP69K standards, suitable for harsh environments and under-bonnet installations.
Can I use the IDC50XIQ with a lithium auxiliary battery?
Yes. It features a dedicated LiFePO₄ charge profile and supports safe, full charging of compatible lithium batteries.
What size fuse is required for the IDC50XIQ?
An 80A fuse should be installed on both the input and output wiring, as close as possible to the battery terminals.
Can I run more than one IDC50XIQ in parallel?
Yes. Two IDC50X units can be paralleled to provide up to 100A of total charging current, supporting large auxiliary battery banks.
Will the charger still work with weak or shaded solar input?
Yes. If solar power is insufficient, the IDC50XIQ will automatically draw from the alternator or combine both sources to meet charging demand.
How can I tell when the auxiliary battery is fully charged?
A constant green Charge LED and solid blue Battery LED indicate the battery is fully charged and the charger is in float mode.
Can I monitor and configure the IDC50XIQ using my phone?
Yes. When used with the optional Intelli-IQ system, you can monitor performance and change settings via the Projecta IQ app on iOS or Android.
